Stress – a major factor in mouth ulcers

Stress is a major cause of mouth ulcers with an average 20% of all adults likely to experience stress-related mouth ulcers at some stage in their lives.

Up to 40% of children under 11 are also likely to experience mouth ulcers due to low immunity. Stress, although difficult to quantify, leads to a drop in immunity and creates vulnerability to the development of mouth ulcers, according to dentist, Dr Marc Sher.

Swim raises R20 000 for disadvantaged

Around 400 swimmers raised close to R20 000 at a race in Grabouw, near Cape Town, on Sunday 12 February which was part sponsored by Similasan.

Global diabetes expert cautions Africa on pandemic & outlines prevention

A staggering 300 million people worldwide have diabetes -- a figure expected to rise to 438 million in 20 years with Africa set for the highest incidence of growth during this period.

These latest statistics from the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organisation will be presented by one of Europe's leading holistic practitioners on diabetes and cholesterol, Dr Geert Verhelst, during an SA seminar and media tour in August 2011.

South Africans wanting to avoid or reverse diabetes type 2 should exercise more, shed kilograms if overweight, cut out refined food and sugar and pursue a diet comprising whole foods and lean protein.
